Hey everyone this week we have a guest writer, Eliza Yeafoli. I will let her explain what The Harper Project is and how you can help. We are giving them a few family sessions to auction off and a business video. If you can help out in anyway make sure to contact them.
The Harper Project
Last Spring, when I was 5 months pregnant, my daughter Harper passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. She was due on July 24th and as it got closer and closer to that date, I was dreading the feelings that I knew would accompany that never to be fulfilled milestone.
I started brainstorming things that I could do to distract myself and make that day more bearable for me. I created Harper’s Day and invited everyone I knew to perform random acts of kindness on July 24th in honor of Harper. I really just wanted to give her a legacy and a chance to make a difference in the world, despite her not having the opportunity to live in it. Adding to an already painful set of circumstances, my husband Tony was deployed in Afghanistan and would not be home in time to participate with me.
I was completely blown away by the response. I was picturing my family and friends participating, but by the time July 24th came, there were 1,000 people that had joined the Facebook event. I had been interviewed on the radio and the local news even did a spot on Harper’s Day. So many people, most of whom I didn’t know, were posting pictures and stories faster than I could keep up, all accompanied by #harpersday2014.
I figured if we could make that big of an impact with only a few weeks preparation, we could do amazing things in 2015 and that is how The Harper Project was born. The Harper Project is really the umbrella organization for all of the legwork done leading up to Harper’s Day.
The biggest undertaking of The Harper Project this year is an online auction, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to charity. I spent hours researching different charities, wanting to find one that I felt would really put the money to good use. When I came across Operation Underground Railroad, I knew that this was the charity that I wanted to fundraise for. This is an organization that rescues children from sex trafficking and slavery. If you haven’t heard of them or the incredible work that they do, please check them out here: https://ourrescue.org.
The online auction will go live July 1st and end July 20th and can be found here: http://harperproject2015.eflea.ca. We are still accepting donations of both goods and services to be auctioned off and are adding new items all the time. If you are interested in donating, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
